Netizens Roast Karnataka Govt for Rs 6.2 Crore Soap Deal with Tamannaah Bhatia.
Karnataka govt signs a ₹6.2 crore deal with actress Tamannaah Bhatia to promote Mysore Sandal Soap.
Social media is rife with sarcasm after the Karnataka government sealed a Rs 6.2 crore deal with actress Tamannaah Bhatia to promote its famous Mysore Sandal Soap. And let’s just say – the soap is not the only thing that is getting roasted!
Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL), the producer of the iconic sandal soap, decided to give its brand a celebrity facelift. The only problem is that no one is buying it. The soap, and certainly not the idea.
That’s the question being raised in every comment section. Not that people dislike Tamannaah (she’s great), but many users wonder why they chose a lady from the film industry to represent a Karnataka legacy brand that is not even from Karnataka!!??
One tweet said, “This is like hiring a pizza to make an advertisement for dosa. We like both, but they don’t fit together!”
Another one chimed in with, “Kannada stars exist, you know. They use soap too. Probably.”
Officials stated the aim is to “modernise the brand and attract a pan-India audience.” In plain English, they want everyone, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, to be lathering up with Mysore Sandal soap.
Nevertheless, the internet wants to know if the soap is coming with Tamannaah’s signature or possibly a complimentary movie ticket.
In the meantime, people are editing the posters with Tamannaah holding giant soap bars like it were an action movie instead. One of them showed her battling villains with a soap bar and was entitled “Soap-er Star Tamannaah: The Clean fight”.
At the same time, others are swimming in a sea of posters of Tamannaah with massive bars of soap, like an action flick. One of the memes depicted her fighting the villains with a bar of soap, with the title “SOAP-er Star Tamannaah: The Clean Fight”.
Time will tell if this high-cost campaign cleans up or slips down the soap slope of public opinion. Until this tidbit wears out, Karnataka’s brand strategy is the latest buzz.
