Farah Khan Says Katrina Kaif’s “Sheila Ki Jawani” Had No Set: “Cheapest Song of My Life!”
Farah Khan reveals the truth behind Katrina Kaif’s hit song Sheila Ki Jawani
Bollywood filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan shared an unbelievable (and funny) secret about one of her most popular songs, Sheila Ki Jawani. Yes, the same glamorous, dancing-filled song featuring Katrina Kaif that was a sensation across the country didn’t even have a set.
Farah didn’t hold back. She said, “They think we spent crores on Sheila Ki Jawani. But honestly speaking, it’s the cheapest song of my life!” And, no, it was not even a joke.
The song, which looked incredibly chic on screen, was filmed in an abandoned ruin with absolutely no embellishments.
“Nothing; no set, no budget, nothing! We shot the song in a broken room,” Farah recalls. “There were cracks on the walls, broken floors. I told them, ‘Paint it white and put Katrina in the middle.’ That was it. That was the whole plan.
And let’s not forget about the girl who was the actual star of the song, Katrina Kaif! She never whined or complained. She owned it on the dance floor.
The venue could have easily been mistaken for a haunted house rather than a friendly film set environment. “Katrina was the glitter,” Farah said. “No glitter in the room, just her moves made it sparkle!”
All along, fans have appreciated Sheila Ki Jawani for its upbeat rhythm, striking dance moves, and Katrina’s fabulous performance. However, now that we know that the song was made on such a low budget, it makes it even more amazing.
Farah chuckled as she recalled how they covered the plaster cracks in the walls with a few white curtains and some good lighting: “I mean, one strong wind, and the curtains would have flown away, just like Katrina’s dupatta!”
She also compared it to her other songs that had enormous sets, like Dard-e-Disco or Deewangi Deewangi, and how they spent an exorbitant amount of money on lights, dancers, and stage designs.
“I spent more on Shah Rukh’s six-pack abs in Om Shanti Om than I did on the entire Sheila Ki Jawani song”.
Farah Khan and Katrina Kaif showed how Bollywood history is made with just talent, creativity, and some white paint.
In Farah’s words, “Sometimes, being broke makes you more creative. And sometimes, that creativity is your biggest hit.”
