Following the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, the Indian Army has launched a powerful counter-offensive named Operation Sindoor, which reportedly involved crossing the border and eliminating multiple terrorist hideouts in Pakistan-occupied territory. The nation has been unified in saluting the courage and valor of the Indian Army, with citizens pouring out messages of support and pride on social media. However, the silence of several Bollywood celebrities has sparked controversy, especially after remarks by veteran singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya.

In a recent interview, Abhijeet Bhattacharya expressed his deep disappointment over the lack of response from many Bollywood stars following the Indian Army’s bold operation. He contrasted the attitude of Pakistani artists with that of Indian celebrities, suggesting that Pakistani performers show more aggressive nationalism, albeit against India, while Indian stars often remain indifferent or neutral.

“Pakistani artists are more nationalist than us. They are still raising their voice against us. We made them and paid them. Earlier, only local people recognized them; we gave them popularity, and now they are recognized at the worldwide level,” Bhattacharya said during the interview.

He emphasized the silence within the Indian film industry, indirectly questioning the patriotism of Bollywood personalities who either remained quiet or have not shown support for the army’s action.

“There is silence among the stars here. What are we doing? We are also talking against ourselves. Either we are talking or we are not talking at all. We are maintaining silence,” he added, clearly irked.

The singer’s comments have ignited debate online, with some supporting his stand and others questioning whether it is fair to expect public figures to comment on every national issue.

Meanwhile, several Bollywood personalities have saluted the Army’s bravery, though a section of the industry has indeed chosen to stay away from making public statements. This has led to growing conversations about patriotism, public responsibility, and the influence of celebrity voices in times of national crisis.

As the impact of Operation Sindoor continues to unfold, Bhattacharya’s words have added another layer to the ongoing dialogue on nationalism in India’s entertainment industry.
