Rahul Vaidya Opens Up About Online Abuse After Virat Kohli Instagram Controversy
Singer Rahul Vaidya has finally addressed the controversy that erupted after he claimed cricketer Virat Kohli blocked him on Instagram. What started as a light-hearted complaint turned into a full-blown social media feud, with Rahul revealing that he and his family received death threats from Kohli’s fans.
In a recent interview with Tele Talk, Rahul clarified that the matter has now been resolved, and Kohli has unblocked him. “That chapter is closed now. It was a joke, but his fans turned it into a very ugly controversy. The joke was sensationalized and blown out of proportion, and it became something else entirely. But the past is past; it’s over now,” he said.
The controversy began when Rahul Vaidya posted a story on Instagram, joking about being blocked by the star cricketer. He speculated humorously that it must have been an Instagram glitch and tagged it with a sarcastic remark: “Instagram’s algorithm must have said to Virat Kohli, ‘Ek kaam karke, main tere naam par Rahul Vaidya ko block karte hu,’ right?”
Things escalated when Rahul called Kohli’s fans “jokers” after receiving backlash online. In one story, he wrote, “You are abusing me, that’s fine, but you are abusing my wife, my sister… who have nothing to do with this! So I was right. So all you Virat Kohli fans are jokers! 2 kauri ke jokers.”
Rahul later disclosed that the trolling turned extremely toxic, with threats directed not just at him but also at his family. “What bothered me the most in this controversy was how my family and I were targeted and abused. I received death threats. Kohli’s fans said, ‘I will kill you; never show up.’ And people get away with writing such things because there is no accountability on the internet,” he said.
However, the singer has since extended an olive branch. On May 17, 2025, he confirmed that Kohli had unblocked him on Instagram. Sharing the update, Rahul wrote, “Thank you, Virat Kohli, for unblocking me. You are one of the best batsmen cricket has ever seen, and you are the pride of India! Jai Hind. God bless you and your family.”
The incident has reignited conversations around online abuse, fan toxicity, and the limits of celebrity interactions on social media.
