Anu Aggarwal’s Aashiqui Fee Saga Re-Emerges After 35 Years

Spread the love

In a revelation that’s sent the nostalgic corridors of Bollywood reeling, Anu Aggarwal, the captivating beauty of the 1990 musical phenomenon Aashiqui, has revealed that she was never paid in its entirety for her work in the film. While the film itself had been a monumental success, Aggarwal asserts that 35 years down the line, 40% of the fee agreed with her is still outstanding.

The Unsettling Revelation

Aggarwal, who overnight became a sensation with her Aashiqui debut, recently spoke about the money injustice she suffered. “I was given just 60% of my payment for Aashiqui. The remaining 40% is still pending,” she said. The film, which was co-produced by late Gulshan Kumar of T-Series and Vishesh Films, produced by Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt, was a turning point for her career, but the pending payment creates a shadow on its success.

A Gift or a Gaffe?

In a plot twist that deepens the controversy, Aggarwal called the amount outstanding a “gift” from her side. “I became a brand ambassador, the first actress in India to do so. Cricketers were the only brand ambassadors at that time. This is my gift to them,” she said, pointing to her pioneering work in brand endorsements when it was unusual for actors.

A Career Cut Short

Aggarwal’s career in Bollywood was as sensational as her characters on screen. It was promisingly on track until it was cut short by a near-fatal accident in 1999, prompting her to leave the spotlight behind and take up a spiritual journey. Today, years on, her open confessions are fueling debates about openness and impartiality in the film industry.

As the industry grapples with this revelation, fans and fellow actors alike are left pondering the complexities behind the glamour of Bollywood’s golden era.
